Beep
beep

I'm in my kitchen wondering where that incessant sound is coming from.  There really aren't many electronic devices in here that should sound off every minute, letting me know that

beep

something needs attention.  Did I forget about the carrots in the mircowave again?  I had to laugh when I found a moldy bowl of carrots that sat in the microwave over the weekend while we were out for the Frandsen family reunion.  I remember putting them in there, hoping Aaron would give them a go, imagining his disappointment that I hadn't

beep

cooked them in the crockpot for hours, then picturing tiny orange chunks dribble from his lips...which I assume led me to ditch the carrots for another, more hopeful edible alternative. Did I lead my child into his picky eating habits?  How can his cousins gobble down

beep

the food options placed in front of them when Aaron would rather experiment with how far he can launch the chunks of x,y, and z I offer him.  This article inspired me to keep trying and approaching the veggie battle with different ammunition.  Maybe if I put Aaron's enthusiastic grocery cart-pushing skills to use more in the vegetable section he would be more excited about digesting them?

beep

Oh how I do love my "new" kitchen, though.  Our move to a new apartment gave me another few yards of counter space, which I really appreciate.  Now I just need to get better at meal planning.  Any ideas meal plan ideas out there I need to know about?  I would love a good website to help me improve my planning. Beautiful meal plans just don't come naturally to me.  I'm working on it.

beep

Every time I hear that beep I'm amazed that Aaron can hear it.  Not only that, but while we were at my parents' house for dinner on Sunday with a lot of chatter, dishes clanging, and fans buzzing he pointed to his ear and made the surprised face when the microwave beeped in the other room.  Jonny and I both recognized his listening accomplishment and were amazed.  When our mysterious beep rang out in the kitchen tonight and Aaron responded with the same listening posture and surprised expression we were again wowed.  It's probably strange to other parents how much we congratulate him for those little listening moments.  I live each day just amazed by how much he's picking up, by the new words he learns (bellybutton was one of the many new ones this past week) with and without my coaxing.  We are so proud of Aaron, grateful for his determination and tolerance and excited for his future.  (Even if he doesn't like eating his veggies).

beep

I think I like that sound.

Yay!

As for meal planning, allrecipes.com has a shopping list tool that I use to plan what to buy. You can create different shopping lists and put whatever recipes you want into each one, and then it will generate a list of everything you need to make your meals for the week. Super slick!

Oh, those carrots! I leave things in my microwave all the time.

We are so proud of all the amazing progress Aaron is making! Each time we are around him, he is improving the words he knows and adding to his vocabulary.

My personal favorite is ba-e-baaa!!! (basketball) with his hands stretched out looking up. He's got it down!

You know he is hearing when he ignores you! But, he said 'Grandpa' last night. So, his vocabulary is complete.

you're such an amazing writer--I just love reading your posts. I'm so proud of little Aaron. I couldn't believe how much he had learned when I saw him at the family reunion! It's all due to incredible parents. :)

You are an amazing writer Mel! I am so happy to hear Aaron is doing so well. Let's face it though, we all knew he would with parents like you!
For meal planning, I can't recommend the Food Nanny enough! You can get her book on Amazon. She is a family friend and her book has changed my entire outlook on cooking dinner! I love it and use it every single day.
Her plan is to categorize your days. Monday's comfort food, Tuesday is Mexican, Wednesday is Italian, etc. She has all her recipes (you also incorporate your own favorites) organized complete with shopping list!
